I went to an event hosted by Costanoa Ventures about women in tech. They invited four women panelists at various stages in their careers to talk about their work experiences and advice they have for other women.

1. Advocacy/mentorship: Each woman spoke about having various people in their careers who have advocated or mentored them, whether it was giving them more visibility, helping them get a promotion, or giving career advice. It’s important to have a manager who pushes you. At the same time, you have to reach out too, whether it’s your manager or someone in another department, in order to let them know what you want.
2. Success & Luck: The harder you work, the luckier you get. It’s important to make your own luck.
3. Feedback: Ask for feedback and use it to improve. Nobody wants to hear negative feedback and criticism, but if they didn’t care they wouldn’t be telling you anything at all.
